The world is small for us
Hamburg – From the Main Station to Jungfernstieg

From Hauptbahnhof to Jungfernstieg

Hamburg’s central railway station ( Hamburg Hauptbahnhof ) is located in the S. Jorge district, a very central area of the city, close to several shops and hotels. It is the main public transport reference point in Hamburg and is also a practical point of arrival for travelers visiting the city.

Leaving the station builiding and walking north along the railway lines we find the Hamburger Kunsthalle building, an art museum of the free and Hanseatic city of Hamburg.

It is one of the largest museums in the country. The name “Kunsthalle” speaks of the museum’s history as an “art salon” when it was founded in 1850.

Continuing north, we go straight to the lakes of the river Alster, one of the affluent of the river Elbe that flows through much of the city of Hamburg and joins the Elbe in the center of the city.

The inner lake, Binnenalter or Inner Alster , has a fountain with more than 60m clearly visible from the Lombardy Bridge from where you can also admire the Jungfernstieg , large and graceful avenue on the banks of the Alster Lakes
